What is the "Owned By" Dropdown?

The "Owned By" dropdown is a selector that appears when creating content on Taalika. It determines who owns and can manage the content you're creating. This affects permissions, visibility, and team collaboration.

Where Does It Appear?

You'll see the "Owned By" dropdown when creating:

• Dancer Profiles: Artist portfolios
• Festivals: Annual or recurring events
• Vendor Profiles: Marketplace listings

Note: School profiles and Events no longer use this dropdown. They are always owned by their creator, with access granted through organization circles.

Understanding the Options

Personal Ownership

When you select "Personal":

• You are the sole owner and manager
• Only you can edit or delete the content
• Content appears under your personal account
• Good for individual dancers, small-scale events

Organization Ownership

When you select an organization from the dropdown:

• The organization owns the content
• All team members with appropriate permissions can edit
• Content appears under the organization's name
• Better for collaboration and team management
• Survives individual member turnover

How to Choose?

Choose Personal When:

• ✓ You're creating content for yourself
• ✓ You don't need team collaboration
• ✓ Content is tied to you as an individual
• ✓ You want complete control
• ✓ You're a solo artist or freelancer

Choose Organization When:

• ✓ Multiple people need to manage the content
• ✓ Content represents an institution
• ✓ You want team members to help edit
• ✓ Content should persist beyond individual members
• ✓ You're creating on behalf of a school or company

Step-by-Step: Using the Dropdown

When Creating Content

1. Click the button to create new content (e.g., "Create Event")
2. Look for the "Owned By" field near the top of the form
3. Click the dropdown to see options
4. You'll see:
   • Personal
   • [Organization Name 1]
   • [Organization Name 2]
   • ...and more if you're part of multiple organizations
5. Select the appropriate option
6. Continue filling out the form

What Happens After Selection?

With Personal Ownership

• Content saved to your personal account
• Appears in your personal content lists
• Only you receive notifications about it
• Only you can edit or delete it

With Organization Ownership

• Content saved to the organization's account
• Appears in the organization's content lists
• Team members can see and edit it (based on permissions)
• Organization admins can manage it
• Survives if you leave the organization

Filtering by Ownership

After creating content with different ownerships, you can filter to view specific content:

1. Go to the relevant section (e.g., Events, Schools, Dancers)
2. Look for the "Owned By" filter at the top
3. Select:
   • All: Show everything you have access to
   • Personal Only: Show only your personal content
   • [Organization]: Show only that organization's content

Common Scenarios

Scenario 1: Dance Teacher Creating Student Profiles

Question: Should I use Personal or Organization ownership for student profiles?

Answer: Use Organization ownership. This ensures that:

• Other teachers at your school can help manage profiles
• Profiles remain accessible if you leave
• The school maintains ownership of its student roster

Scenario 2: Freelance Dancer Creating a Workshop

Question: I'm organizing a workshop independently. Which ownership?

Answer: Use Personal ownership. You're the sole organizer and don't need team collaboration.

Scenario 3: School Organizing an Annual Festival

Question: Our school hosts a yearly festival with multiple coordinators. Which ownership?

Answer: Use Organization ownership. This allows:

• Multiple coordinators to update the festival details
• Continuity across years even if coordinators change
• Institutional branding and recognition

Transferring Ownership

If you selected the wrong ownership initially, you can transfer it:

1. Open the content you want to transfer
2. Look for the "Transfer Ownership" button (usually in floating actions)
3. Select the new owner (Personal or another organization)
4. Confirm the transfer

Organizations You're Part Of

The organizations shown in the "Owned By" dropdown depend on:

• Organizations you own (you created them)
• Organizations you're a member of (you were invited)
• Your role in each organization (affects what you can create)
