    About Me

Pushpita Mishra is an Odissi dancer and guru whose work centers on the classical Odissi margam and on training younger generations through the guru–shishya parampara. Within Odissi pedagogy, her teaching and performance approach aligns with the traditional sequence of items—Mangalacharan, Batu Nritya, Pallavi, Abhinaya, and Moksha—emphasizing clean chauka and tribhangi, precise torso undulations, and expressive abhinaya to Odia and Sanskrit poetry. In workshops and student recitals, she is known to emphasize technique, tala literacy, and sahitya comprehension, helping students connect musical phrasing to movement imagery. Her repertoire reflects a strong commitment to classicism, often presenting core Pallavis and abhinaya narratives that are staples of Odissi concert practice, while also guiding students through the nuances of stagecraft, aharya (costume and aesthetics), and performance etiquette. As a guru, she has mentored students for solo and group presentations at cultural festivals and institutional functions, curating annual or periodic student showcases to mark training milestones. She also engages in lecture-demonstrations that introduce Odissi history, the reconstruction of the form in the mid-20th century, and the codified vocabulary shaped by the major Odissi lineages.
