About the event
The first edition of the Konark Festival was organised in 1989 at the Open-Air Auditorium near the magnificent Sun Temple in Konark, Odisha. Conceived as a celebration of India's rich classical dance heritage, the festival brought together the artistic traditions of the country against the backdrop of one of India's most remarkable architectural monuments. With a focus on promoting classical dance, particularly Odisha's cultural identity, the inaugural edition marked the beginning of an important cultural tradition. It established Konark as a significant destination for classical performing arts and laid the foundation for what would become one of India's recognised dance festivals.
