Part 1 — Preliminary Rounds

The Preliminary Rounds mark the opening chapter of Kataka Natyotsav 2026 – 2nd Edition and the first stage of its three-part competitive journey.

College and university theatre teams from across the region come together to present their productions before a live audience and an eminent panel of theatre practitioners and judges. For participating teams, this is where months of preparation, creativity and campus passion finally meet the stage.

Each registered production receives dedicated stage time with professional sound and lighting support, giving every team the opportunity to present its theatrical vision in a vibrant public setting.

The competition evaluates the complete theatrical experience—from script and direction to acting, stagecraft, design and technical execution. Beyond competition, the Preliminary Rounds provide young performers, writers and directors an opportunity to test their craft, experience a professional performance environment and receive valuable perspectives from experienced members of the theatre community.

As the first elimination stage of Kataka Natyotsav, every performance matters. Only the highest-scoring teams will advance to Part 2 — The Semi-Finals at Ravenshaw University, taking them one step closer to the grand stage of Baliyatra.
